Each sister is expected to participate in 21 activites each year; these activities are called "pearls". Each sister
must do 10 activities each semester that emphasize each one of the 5 S's, and one personal development pearl (PDP) for that
whole year, equaling 21 "pearls".
Our New Member Education Program emphasizes this by asking New Members to participate in 10 activities throughout a six
week process. The first week stresses our values and traditions, after which each week focuses on one of the 5 S's. The program
is designed to stress personal growth in all aspects of life.
Delta Phi Epsilon is based on the concept which we call the 5 S's"

Self Pearl
The Self S stands for physical, emotional, and personal development. Delta Phi Epsilon is committed
to promoting positive self-awareness and providing opportunities for self-discovery to help sisters develop individual strength,
establish a personal set of values, and clarify their purpose as a student and a sister. The sorority is focused on developing
physical and mental well-being.
Service Pearl
The Service S stands for community and societal awareness and involvement. Delta Phi Epsilon aims to
develop women who will be contributing members of society. Sisters are exposed to relevant societal issues and provided the
opportunity to make a positive impact within as well as outside the sorority. They have the chance to become aware of important
issues, discover ways to be more involved, and begin to participate in community service and philanthropic projects.
Scholarship Pearl
The Scholarship S stands for academic, career and lifestyle skills and planning. Delta Phi Epsilon recognizes
academics as a priority and aims to enhance the college mission by providing information and assistance on educational concerns,
intellectual development, career preparation, and lifestyle planning.
Sisterhood Pearl
The Sisterhood S stands for organizational knowledge and skills. Individual sisters must have the skills
to manage the affairs of the chapter and lead their fellow sisters. All members must have knowledge of how the sorority operates
and what the expectations are of the members. Sisters must also have an understanding of the Greek system, the benefits of
being in a sorority, and the polices relating to Greek life. A strong sorority spirit involves mutual friendship, support
between members, and activities that increase the bonds of sisterhood.
Social Pearl
The Social S stands for communication, leadership and social development. It provides sisters with the
opportunity to enhance their communications and leadership skills as well as the ability to work with and relate to others
in a variety of situations. The knowledge and experience of social skills help sisters effectively participate in one-on-one
situations and small and large group settings, which explore diversity, multiculturalism, and gender issues, as well as leadership
development.
